Color Field
Freedom expressed through color, a dynamic brushstroke and even fields of tone: these are the principles of abstract expressionism, which emerged after the Second World War. It was a time of chaos and change, and it gave rise to a movement that shaped modernism.
Its mix of expression and restraint is close to POELLE. One branch of the movement is color field painting, which our team reads as bold self-expression held in minimalist restraint. Continuing to work where fashion meets art, POELLE presents a new line of accessories: Color Field.
“The aim of our search stays the same: to make accessories without unnecessary details that leave a lasting impression,” says POELLE creative director Pavlo Popko. While developing the concept, the team looked at the work of Mark Rothko, one of the key artists of abstract expressionism, and Kazimir Malevich, the Ukrainian avant-garde artist of Polish descent.
Their colors and forms became the palette of Color Field. Monochrome, deep shades finish the small Josy and Untitled bags, the Object №03 bag with its strap, the Mark Belt with a minimal buckle, and the Cecilie and Carolyn bags. Pieces in Color Field come in smooth leather and in suede.
“The collection does not quote the artists word for word,” adds stylist Olesia Darii. “It is our impression of Rothko’s and Malevich’s paintings, carried into accessories and photographs.” One of the references for the Color Field campaign shoot was Malevich’s Suprematist composition Airplane Flying (1915).
Quiet restraint and everyday function are at the heart of Color Field. See the Color Field collection.
