The baguette bag: what it is, how to wear it and which size to choose
A baguette bag is a long, low, flat bag on a short strap or handle, worn high under the arm, the way you would carry a French loaf. Most are 25–35 cm wide and 10–15 cm tall, so they take a phone, cards, keys and a lipstick. Choose by width and depth: under 30 cm it is a bag for evenings and lighter days; at 33–35 cm it carries a full day.
How to recognize a baguette
By three things. The bag is clearly wider than it is tall. It hangs on a short strap or handle, so it sits high, under the arm, not at the hip. And it is shallow, usually under 10 cm deep, so it lies flat against the body.
That sets it apart from its neighbors. A shoulder bag can be any shape and often hangs lower. A crossbody bag hangs across the body on a long strap. An east-west bag is the wider family the baguette belongs to: any bag with a horizontal shape. For all the shapes side by side, see our guide to bag types and sizes.

Which size to choose
Start with your phone. A large phone is about 16 × 7.5 cm and lies flat in any baguette from 25 cm wide. Then add the rest. If you carry cards and keys, a slim bag such as Britni, only 5 cm deep, is enough and sits neatly under the arm. If you carry a wallet and sunglasses in a case, look for depth: Cecilie at 9 cm or Untitled Medium at 13 cm. In a baguette, depth decides more than width.
Weight matters too, because a baguette hangs from one shoulder. Prima Mini weighs 350 g, Britni 400 g, Cecilie and Untitled Small 650 g each, Untitled Medium 900 g.
Height plays a part as well. On a petite frame, a shorter baguette such as Britni or Untitled Small keeps the proportions right. On a tall frame or over a long coat, the longer Cecilie or Untitled Medium balances the line.
How to wear a baguette bag
On the shoulder, under the arm. The classic way. A handle drop of 25–28 cm keeps the bag high and close to the body. Over a thick winter coat a longer drop helps: Cecilie's 27.5 cm handles go over a coat.
In the hand. A baguette with one arched handle, like Untitled Small, or with short handles, like Prima Mini, is carried like a small case and looks more dressed.
Across the body. That takes a long strap. If you want a small horizontal bag worn across the body, see our guide to leather crossbody bags.
By day, a baguette works with straight jeans, a white shirt and a blazer, because the horizontal line of the bag echoes the hem of the jacket. In the evening it replaces a clutch and leaves your hands free.
For work, a baguette is a good second bag. The laptop and papers go in a tote, and the baguette with your phone, cards and keys goes inside it or on your shoulder. After work you go to dinner with the baguette alone. In winter, wear it over the coat, not under it: the short handle keeps it high anyway, so it does not knock against gloved hands.
Black, suede or a color
A black baguette is the easiest to wear: Britni, Cecilie and both sizes of Untitled come in smooth black calfskin with gold-tone hardware. A suede baguette looks softer and deeper in color: Cecilie in choco, caramel or navy blue, Untitled Small in choco or orange, Prima Mini in choco or lime. Suede prefers dry days; we cover the care in our guide to the suede bag.
Burgundy, our Marsala, comes in Britni, Cecilie and Untitled Medium. Lighter colors for spring and summer are milky Britni and Untitled Small and butter yellow in Britni and Cecilie. We write about the season's colors in the bags of fall and winter 2026/2027.

Yes, in any baguette from 25 cm wide the phone lies flat. All five models in the table take one.
What is the difference between a baguette and a crossbody bag?
A baguette is worn high on the shoulder on a short strap. A crossbody bag is worn across the body on a long strap.

Yes, if it is deep enough. Untitled Medium is 13 cm deep and takes a wallet, sunglasses in a case and a cosmetic bag.
